Talk therapy

Therapy is a collaborative and confidential process that involves a trained mental health professional and an individual seeking support. This therapeutic journey aims to explore and understand thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and interpersonal dynamics. Through open dialogue and evidence-based interventions, my style of therapy helps individuals gain insight into their challenges, develop coping strategies, and foster personal growth. I employ various therapeutic modalities, such as dialectical behavior therapy strategies and parts work (internal family), tailored to the unique needs of each client. The therapeutic relationship provides a safe space for self-reflection, self-discovery, and the cultivation of skills to navigate life's complexities.

Art therapy

Art therapy is a clinical modality that invites the use of creative mediums to explore feelings, thoughts, and experiences. Research has shown that art therapy is effective in many areas, such as improved self-esteem, trauma resolution, and reduction in symptoms. Archetypes and symbolic language help to bring messages into consciousness, so that emotions can be witnessed and processed. Modalities include painting, drawing, sculpting, writing, mixed media, and more. A common misconception about art therapy is that the clinician will make interpretations or "analyze" the artwork. My approach allows you to be present with the process and make your own connections. I will simply hold space for you and remind you how to make independent decisions about your process by checking in with yourself. We will work together to choose art directives that relate to your treatment plan. Art therapy is effective across age groups and requires no artistic training.

Disclaimer

While the approach is gentle, active participation and willingness from the client are essential for effective progress. The decision to attend therapy is a deeply personal one, and I believe it should be an autonomous one. Forcing a teen into therapy can have detrimental consequences that lead to more harm than benefit, for this reason, Art Therapy of Milford does not accept teens who are not consenting to treatment. Art Therapy of Milford is not equipped to provide immediate crisis intervention or emergency services, as hours of operation are limited. If you have any questions or concerns about accessing crisis resources or require assistance in connecting with appropriate crisis services, you may ask to discuss options.
